Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church

A Congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod

Who We Are

In 1969 four families set about to organize a congregation of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod here in Elizabethtown. In those early years, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church met for afternoon worship services in the Nolin R.E.C.C. building and in a room at the First Hardin National Bank. In 1972 the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Indiana District provided a grant of $7,000 to purchase the land upon which our church is now situated. Our original building was dedicated to the glory of God on January 20, 1974. In 1988 we enlarged the building and expanded the sanctuary. By the grace of God we dedicated our Fellowship and Education Building in 2003.

The Lutheran Child Care Center opened its doors in the fall of 1992, offering full-time care for 2- to 4-year olds and preschool classes for 3- and 4-year olds. Early in 2012, care for infants and toddlers (one-year-olds) was added.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. The LCMS is a mission-oriented, Bible-based, confessional Christian denomination headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, founded on the teachings of Martin Luther.
